Yorùbá ma ńṣe ọdún Egúngún/Eégún ni ọdọ-dún lati ṣe iranti Bàbánlá/Ìyánlá wọn ti ó ti di olóògbé nitori wọn ni iṣẹ́ lati ṣe laarin alàyè lati rán ará ilú leti pé ki wọn di àjogúnbá ẹ̀kọ́ iwà rere mú. Yorùbá má ńpe Egúngún/Eégún ni “Ará Ọ̀run”.

Egúngún/Eégún ma ńgbé ọ̀pá tàbi ẹgba lati na ẹni ti ó bá hu iwà burúkú ni àwùjọ. Fún àpẹrẹ, obinrin ti kò múra dáradára tàbi ẹni ti ó bá wọ bàtà, Eégún á le lati naa.

Òwe Yorùbá ti ó ni “Bi Egúngún/Eégún bá ńlé ni ki a má rọ́jú, bi ó ṣe ńrẹ ará ayé, ló ńrẹ ará Ọrun”, ṣe gba ẹni ti ó bá wà ninú ìṣòro ni ìyànjú pé, ìṣòro yi ki ṣe ohun ti kò ni tán tàbi ni òpin. Èyi tùmọ́ si pé, ìṣòro yi á ré kọjá bi enia bá lè rọ́jú.
