Adébáyọ̀ Fálétí, ògúná gbòngbò ti ó gbé èdè àti àṣà Yorùbá lárugẹ jade láyé: A Prominent Yoruba language and Culture promoter has departed the world

Àwọn iwé ìròyìn gbe jade wi pé Adébáyọ̀ Fálétí, ògúná gbòngbò ninú àwọn ti ó gbé èdè àti àṣà Yorùbá lárugẹ ni àgbáyé, re ibi àgbà nrè ni ọjọ́ ìsimi ọjọ́ kẹtàlélógún, oṣù keje, ọdún Ẹgbàálémẹ́tàdinlógún.  Ọmọ ọdún mẹrindinlaadọrun ni olóògbé Fálétí ki wọn tó jade láyé.

Olóògbé Adébáyọ̀ Fálétí relé – Late Adebayo Faleti has gone home.

Ni ìgbá ayé olóògbé Adébáyọ̀ Fálétí, ó jẹ́ ìkan ninú àwọn òṣìṣẹ́ àkọ́kọ́ ni ilé iṣẹ́ amóhùn-máwòrán àkọ́kọ́ ni ilẹ̀ Aláwọ̀dúdú ti wọn dá sílẹ̀ ni Ìbàdàn ti ó jẹ́ olú ilú ẹ̀yà Yorùbá ni ìwọ̀ oòrùn orílẹ̀ èdè Nigeria.  Ó gbé èdè Yorùbá lárugẹ nipa ṣi ṣe iṣẹ́ ìtumọ̀ èdè Gẹ̀ẹ́sì si èdè Yorùbá, ó kọ ìwé itumọ̀ ọ̀rọ̀ nipa li lo orúkọ Yorùbá.  Kò tán síbẹ, oníròyìn ni, ó fi eré ìtàgé gbé èdè Yorùbá lárugẹ nipa di dá ẹgbẹ́ ọ̀dọ́ Ọ̀yọ́ fún ìgbéga eré ìtàgé silẹ̀ ni ọdún mejidinlaadọrin sẹhin.  Lára àwọn eré Yorùbá ti olóògbé Adébáyọ̀ Fálétí kọ, ti ó si ṣe ni “Mágùn, Àfọ̀njá, Baṣọ̀run Gáà àti bẹ́ ẹ̀ bẹ́ ẹ́ lọ.

Ẹ̀kọ́ pọ̀ fún ọ̀dọ́ ayé òde òní lati kọ́ lára ìgbésí ayé olóògbé Adébáyọ̀ Fálétí.  Lára ẹ̀kọ́ yi ni wi pe, ìwé kí kà ṣe pàtàkì, bi kò ti ẹ̀ si ìrànlọ́wọ́ lati ka ìwé ni ọmọdé, bi enia bá ka ìwé ni àgbà yio wúlò.  Olóògbé Adébáyọ̀ Fálétí padà si ilé-ìwé  lati lọ pari ìwé mẹfa ti ó dá dúró nigbati kó si agbára fún bàbá rẹ.  Lẹhin eyi ó fi àgbà ara ka ìwé ni ilé-ìwé ẹ̀kọ́ giga.  Ó gbé ìgbésí ayé rere nipa ìtọ́jú àwọn ọmọ àti ìyàwó, ó si fún àwọn ọmọ ni ẹ̀kọ́ ilé àti ti ilé-ìwé.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Many Nigerian Newspapers broke the news of the death of Adebayo Faleti, a prominent promoter of Yoruba language and culture on Sunday, 23rd day of year 2017.  He was 86 years at the time he departed the world.

During his lifetime, he was one of the pioneering staff of the Western Nigeria Television (WNTV) at Ibadan capital of Western State of Nigeria and the first of its kind in Africa.  He promoted Yoruba language as a Translator of English to Yoruba, he wrote a book on the meaning and use of Yoruba names.  That was not all, he was a Broadcaster and he used acting to promote Yoruba language and culture by establishing the ‘Oyo Youth Operatic Society’ sixty eight years ago.  Among the plays he wrote and acted in were ‘Magun, Afonja, Basorun Gaa’ etc.

The youths of nowadays have many lessons to learn from the life of late Adebayo Faleti.  Among such lessons, were the importance of education, even when there was no opportunity at a younger age, going to school as a later life learner often becomes very useful.  Late Adebayo Faleti returned to school at a later age to complete his primary school education which was hindered as a result of the father not being able to afford it. After completing primary six, he continued higher education as a later life learner.  He lived a life worthy of emulation by being responsible, caring for his children and wives and he gave his children formal and informal education.

Late Adebayo Faleti bagged many awards in Nigeria and abroad as a recognition of his immense contribution.
