Fún ọdún mọ́kàndín-lọgọrun lati ìgbà ti Òyìnbó Ìlú-Ọba ti fi ipá gba Èkó titi di ọjọ́ kini oṣù kẹwa, odun Ẹgbẹ̀sánlé-ọkanlelọgọta ti orílẹ̀ èdè Nigeria gba Òmìnira, Òyìnbó Ìlú-Ọba kan èdè Gẹ̀ẹ́sì wọn nípá, wọ́n tún gàba lóri ọrọ adánidá ni orílẹ̀ èdè Nigeria. Ṣi ṣe ìrántí Òmìnira yẹ kó rán gbobgo ọmọ Nigeria lápapọ̀ létí iṣé takun-takun ti àwọn olóri òṣèlú parapọ̀ ṣe lati tú orílẹ̀ èdè sílẹ̀ lọ́wọ́ àwọn Gẹ̀ẹ́sì, pàtàki bi àwọn olóri òṣèlú Ìlà-oòrùn àti Ìwọ̀-oòrùn ti kó ra pọ̀. Èyi fi hàn wi pé bi àwọn òṣèlú ayé òde òní bá fi ìfẹ orílẹ̀ èdè ṣáájú, wọn kò ni fi ẹ̀sìn àti ẹ̀yà bojú lati tú orílẹ̀ èdè ka, èyi ti ó njẹ ki wọn ri àyè jí ìṣúra orílẹ̀ èdè si àpò ara wọn nitori eyi, ó yẹ ki gbogbo ọmọ orílẹ̀ èdè Nigeria ti ó ni ìfẹ́ orílẹ̀ èdè, pẹnupọ̀ lati bá àwọn òṣèlú ti ó nja ilú ló olè wi.

Bi a ṣe nṣe àjọ̀dún Òmìnira kejìdínlọ́gọ́ta yi, ó yẹ ki gbogbo ọmọ orílẹ̀ èdè Nigeria gbé ìfẹ́ lékè ìríra. Ìfẹ́ ló lè borí li lo ẹ̀yà àti ẹ̀sìn lati pín orílẹ̀ èdè, ti ó tún lè dín ojúkòkòrò àwọn òṣèlú kù.

Lati ọ̀dọ̀ àwọn Olùkọ̀wé Èdè àti Àṣà Yorùbá lóri ayélujára, a ki gbogbo ọmọ orílẹ̀ èdè Nigeria kú àjọ̀dún Òmìnira.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

For ninety-nine (99) years from the inception of British annexation of Lagos in 1861 to October 1, 1960 when Nigeria was eventually granted Independence, the British imposed their language and domination of our natural resources. The annual Independence Day celebration should serve as a reminder of the quest for freedom from the colonial rule by leaders from every region of Nigeria especially the coming together of the leaders from the Eastern and Western region of Nigeria. This shows that if all politicians put the interest of Nigeria first, the promotion of religious and ethnic division that enables them to loot the treasury, hence political looters should be condemned by all Nigerians.

As we celebrate the fifty-eight Independence, let all Nigerians promote love instead of hatred. Love will surely conquer ethnicity, religious division and curtail the greed of politicians.
