ENGLISH TRANSLATION
In the Prominent Musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti song “What day are we going to be free from the bondage of slavery”, this song calls for the question “When are we going to be free from darkness in the country Nigeria?”
Just like play, like joke, epileptic power supply began about thirty-three years ago during Sagari’s Government. At that period, it was not because the power generated was not enough but the corruption of the workers that kept tampering with the Transformers in order to extort money, as a result, not all areas were affected at the same time. For example, electricity in the Higher Institutions and the surrounding areas, Airports, Hospitals etc. are spared from power cut. “If a person is betraying the land, evil things would betray such person”, since corrupt workers were not curtailed constant power cut continued.
According to Yoruba adage “What befits it what befit, darkness does not befit human being”, as a result of the darkness brought upon the people by NEPA/PHCN, many industries have left Nigeria which reduces employment, no electricity to preserve food making cost of food items costly, expenses on generators and noise pollution that does not allow people to sleep or save.
We hope that the current deregulation of the power sector will save the people from darkness because darkness does not befit people.
