The report of the death of Mrs Margaret Thatcher was announced on Monday, April 8, 2013.
As a prominent Juju Musician, Ebenezer Obey once sang, “there is no amount of wisdom, character or any way you know, that can please the entire world, life is short, and human beings should do good”. This song is apt in reference to the life of the late Mrs Margaret Thatcher. As the first female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, she did her best for the love of her country. As many are remembering her for great contributions during her time as the Prime Minister many others are some condemning the period.
A popular adage says “Behind every successful man, there is a woman”, but looking at the lives of stern women like Funmilayo Ransome Kuti and Mrs Margaret Thatcher makes one think that “behind every successful woman, there is a man”, their husbands stood strongly with them, this gave them the peace of mind of combining raising children with politics even back when women were rare in politics. There is another lesson learnt from the saying that “what a man can do, a woman can do better”, as Late Funmilayo Kuti fought gallantly for women in Yoruba land as well as in Africa while Late Mrs Margaret Thatcher did her best to bring progress to the United Kingdom without concentrating on distractions.
