Yorùbá ni “Kòsọ́gbọ́n tí o lèda, kòsíwà tí o lèhù tí o lè fi tẹ ayé lórùn”, bí ọ̀pọ̀ ti nyin ìjọba bẹ̃ni ọ̀pọ̀ mbu ẹnu ẹ̀tẹ́ lu àtúnṣe wọnyi wípé Ìjọba ngba lọ́wọ́ aláìní fún àwọn tóní.

The Yoruba adage that “the abundance of money is the father of insolence and the lack of money is the father of panic” is apt to this discussion of benefit cut. The Government is panicking because expenses on benefits far outweigh income. The beneficiaries are in panic as a result of the benefits cut which will add to the hardship being experienced as a result of inflation on food and other amenities.
According to BBC News from April 1, 2013, The United Kingdom would begin a lot of reforms to reduce the Government Deficit, encourage workers to work harder and those not in employment to return to work. Some of the reforms include: capping benefits per family to £26,000; Spare Bedroom Tax; NHS reform etc.
Yoruba adage said “No matter what you do, you cannot please the world”, as many are praising government for these reforms, so also are many condemning them for balancing the books at the expense of the poor.
