Ológun fẹ́ fi ọ̀sẹ̀ mẹfa dojú ijà kọ “Boko Haram – We’ ll crush Boko Haram in 6 weeks—Dasuki

Ọ̀rọ̀ àgbọ́sọ, pé wọn fẹ́ sún ọjọ́ idibò siwájú lu jade ni kété ti ọjọ́ idibò kù bi ọ̀sẹ̀ mẹta.  Iroyin yi kọ́kọ́ lu jade lẹ́nu Ọ̀gágun Dasuki, Onimọ̀ràn Aabo fún Olóri-Òṣèlú Nigeria Jonathan Goodluck.  Ó ni àwọn Ológun fẹ́ fi ọ̀sẹ̀ mẹfa dojú ijà kọ “Boko Haram”, ẹgbẹ́ burúkú ti ó ti gba àwọn ilú ni Òkè-Ọya, Nigeria lati bi ọdún marun. ENGLISH TRANSLATION

About three weeks to the election, rumour heard it that the election was likely to be postponed.  The cat was initially led out of the bag by the National Security Advisor, Sambo Dasuki.  He said the Military would require about six weeks to face the terrorist group known as “Boko Haram”, a sect that held sway in some states in Northern part of Nigeria since almost five years.  As a result, it will be impossible for Military personnel to join hand with the Police to provide security during the election earlier scheduled for February fourteen.

When the President called a meeting of Council of Elders, many people protested the idea of postponement.  The Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attairu Jega in his Press Conference with Journalists, explained that the Government said they could not guarantee security of the thousands of employees that would work during the election and voters as well.  He further explained that the Government said six weeks is required to fight “Boko Haram”, as a result Professor Attahiru Jega said it was unwise to endanger the lives of INEC workers and voters, hence INEC agreed to the postponement.

The new dates for Presidential election is slated for twenty-eight March, while the Governorship election would now be held on eleven April, 2015.  Why has Government not used all the power at its disposal to protect the nation since the past five years?  According to a Yoruba proverb, “A debtor that promised twenty years to redeem debt, forgets that the promised date would soon become tomorrow”, hence Nigerians should be patient as the new dates are just around the corner.
